Projects

M4 Case 5 - Ecosystems

This assignment focused on Carnival Cruise Line’s Ocean Medallion, a wearable IoT device designed to personalize the cruise experience. I explored how the medallion works with sensors, apps, and cloud systems to deliver seamless services like keyless room entry and contactless payments. Through this project, I gained insight into how smart technologies can be strategic systems that improve customer satisfaction, drive sales, and support long-term business goals by combining innovation with personalization.

M2 Act 1 - Decision Support Systems with Excel Part I

In this project, I analyzed projected sales, costs, markup pricing, and overall profitability for several bicycle models from different manufacturers. I organized the data using tables and charts, calculated total costs and selling prices, and created a profit-and-loss statement to evaluate financial performance. Through this assignment, I improved my Excel skills, learned how fixed and variable costs affect profit, and gained a better understanding of how businesses use financial data to make informed decisions.

M5 Case 7 - Enterprise Systems

In this project, I studied how Trek Bicycle used enterprise systems and information management to handle the global bike-part shortage during COVID-19. By analyzing their use of real-time sales data, forecasting tools, and inventory policies, I learned how companies can stay resilient in supply chain disruptions. The case showed me the importance of quick, data-driven decisions, strong supplier relationships, and how enterprise systems can provide a competitive advantage when paired with effective policies and procedures.

Reflection

Throughout this course, I learned how information systems support business decision-making, especially through data organization, spreadsheet tools, and basic financial analysis. I applied these skills in projects like the sales and profit analysis, where I used formulas, tables, and charts to interpret real business data. One challenge I faced was learning how to manage large amounts of information accurately, but by practicing and double-checking my work, I became more confident using Excel and analyzing data. Overall, this course helped me understand how important information management is in any business environment, and I plan to use these skills in future classes and in my career goals, including managing my finances and operations for my own auto-detailing business one day.
